DROUIN/OLSEN is an avant-garde sound project focused on quiet volumes, silence, and the interaction of delicate, improvised sounds drawn from amplified gestures and electrical tones. A collaboration started in 2001 between Victoria, BC artists Jamie Drouin and Lance Austin Olsen, DROUIN/OLSEN is widely respected by international audiences and music reviewers.
Despite receiving international acclaim, DROUIN/OLSEN remain relatively unknown within our home province of British Columbia, to rectify this, we are seeking opportunities to present feature concerts, each one completely improvised and unique to the performance space. The format is well suited to gallery and museum environments and audiences, requiring minimal equipment and volume.
Lance Austin Olsen (b.1943)
Olsen employs a collection of unassuming objects, found audio tapes, and amplified copper plates, to examine themes of memory and shifting muscular movements.
Jamie Drouin (b. 1970)
Drouin’s suitcase-sized analog synthesizer, combined with a portable radio, aim to mimic the subtle electrical noises which form the backdrop to contemporary environments.
